July 4th in DC

Independence Day is just around the corner and there is a dizzying number of ways to celebrate here in the District!  Here’s our roundup of ways to make this July 4th in DC an awesome one.

America’s National Independence Day Parade
where: Constitution Avenue & 7th Street NW
when: July 4, 11:45 AM

Co-hosted by the National Park Service and produced by Diversified Events, this quintessential July 4th experience is complete with invited bands from around the country, fife and drum corps, floats, military and specialty units, giant balloons, equestrian, drill teams, VIP’s, national dignitaries, and celebrity participants.

NoMa’s July 4th Bash
where: 2nd & L Streets NE
when: July 4, 4-7 PM

After the parade, kick off the holiday weekend with your neighbors on this grassy field in NoMa.  You can expect live bluegrass music, moon bounces, and face painting, as well as free hamburgers, hotdogs and watermelon for the first 200 attendees, courtesy of our neighborhood Harris Teeter!  Bring your picnic gear and your (leashed) pooch, then settle in and enjoy the festivities.

National Museum of American History
where: 14th Street & Constitution Avenue NW
when: 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM, everyday (see calendar for extended holiday hours)

There are few things more patriotic than the American Flag.  As always, the flag that inspired the Star Spangled Banner will be on display this weekend at the National Museum of American History, but through July 6, visitors will be treated to a glimpse of the original manuscript of the national anthem, here for a limited time from the Maryland Historical Society.  Whether this weekend brings rain or high temperatures, take a break from the outdoors to experience this piece of American history.

Fireworks set off from the National Mall can be seen from multiple vistas throughout the District. Here are some of the best places to watch from:

Jefferson Memorial
East Potomac Park
Anacostia Park
Perry’s Restaurant Rooftop
Jack Rose Roof Deck and Tiki Bar
Red Rocks – H Street
