While the beginning of October is the official kick-off of Oktoberfest as we know it, the DC area wastes no time getting into the festive spirit. A number of local Oktoberfest-related events and activities begin in September and continue throughout the month of October, giving you plenty of time to catch at least one:

Check Out A Neighborhood Street Festival
Soak up the last of the warm weather by attending one of DC’s popular street festivals, such as the H Street Festival on Saturday, September 16th or Adams Morgan Day. on Sunday, September 10th. Both are free to attend and feature music, art, and activities for all ages, plus food and drink available for purchase.
Take In Opera In The Outfield At Nationals Park
Back by popular demand is the live simulcasting of the Washington National Opera on the HD Score Board at Nationals Park. This year, attendees of this free event will enjoy a performance of Aida, live from the Kennedy Center. This event takes place Saturday, September 23rd at 7pm, but come early to grab a good seat and take advantage of some fun pre-performance activities!
