Meet the 2M Street Concierge Kali Hardman

What was the path that led you here, either personally or professionally?
The path that led me here to 2M was a mix of a creative educational background and a professional background in customer service and administrative assistance. I learned about 2M from a friend who is also an employee of WC Smith and the more I learned about this development the more I wanted to be involved.

What do you like to do when you’re not working?
When I’m not working, I like to stay busy with community events going on in the area and by supporting local musicians and artists. The summer screenings at Union Market are what I’m looking forward to the most!

Where do you see NoMa in 5 years?
There are so many changes being applied to this area and it’s all happening very fast. If you would have asked me this 5 years ago I could have never predicted where this community is at now. It’s hard to say, but I have high hopes for this community building itself into one that applies plans for a better future for our environment and NoMa residents. In 5 years I’m confident the current changes are going to bring a very positive environment for everyone to live and grow here in NoMa.

If you only had 1 day in DC, what are your top 3 musts?
It depends on the day. DC always has some interesting events going on. If I only had one day in DC, I’m a foodie, so a personal must is trying some food you haven’t tried before. Todd Gray’s Watershed here in NoMa is a great place to start! Next, a personal favorite- The Botanical Gardens! It’s not far from all the museums and the monument and all the other ‘musts’ of this city, but it’s the most relaxing piece of DC I’ve found. Last but not least, read the paper and find out what is going on! You can almost always catch a free comedy open mic or a free show right around the corner.

If 2M were a super hero what would it be?
If 2M were a superhero, it would be Captain America. Doubted at first, but proves to be strong and full of hope and heart.

What do you think draws residents to 2M and NoMa now?
Location! We are a less than 5 minute walk from the NoMa/Gallaudet Metro station. 2M is setting itself up to be a very accessible, relaxing and environmentally conscious piece of the NoMa community.

What is your favorite green feature at 2M?
Rain water harvesting is my favorite green feature here at 2M. You will see rooftop gardens all over DC, which is a really good start. However here at 2M, we are taking the extra step to get creative and push forward on reducing our footprint on the environment.  We’re doing it because it’s the right thing to do.

What is your favorite 2M amenity?
The rooftop pool! The view up there is breath taking and makes you take a step back and enjoy the possibilities of your life in the Nation’s Capital.

Describe your perfect day at 2M:
A perfect day at 2M always starts when Emmy walks in the door! From there I’m looking forward to seeing future residents after they experience the tour of all our amenities and getting their feedback so we can continue to grow in the right direction.

Why would your pet love to live here?
Space! We have so much space for dogs to play and be social with other dogs. I think it’s important that we provide and environment for these animals where they will not feel confined. Here at 2M we provide a healthy, happy setting for pets and pet lovers alike.

If you could choose a floor to live on at 2M?
If only there was a unit on the rooftop next to the pool! I would like to live on one of the top floors facing the capital, you can’t beat the view you can catch from up there.

If you could sum up 2M in 3 words:
Three words to describe 2M would be Conscious, Tranquil, and Elegant.

Meet the 2M Street Team-Albina

What made you want to come work at 2M?
I always wanted to work for a company with a great reputation; this is why I chose WC Smith. I am very excited to work in one of the most beautiful buildings in NoMa with a close knit team and the cutest puppy social media has ever seen.

What do you like to do when you’re not working?
When I am not working I still like to stay busy and entertained.  I enjoy attending concerts, festivals, new restaurants and of course shopping. I also love outdoor activities.

Where do you see NoMa in 5 years?
NoMa is an emerging neighborhood with a bright future. It is currently in the process of developing into one of DC’s most vibrant neighborhoods with great infrastructure, restaurants and shops.

If you only had 1 day in DC, what would be your top 3 musts?
1. Get a pedicab and see the sites of DC
2. Go to as many museums as I can, because Washington, DC is the only city where you can visit the majority of the (Smithsonian) museums for FREE
3. I would definitely see the White House and take tons of pictures

What is your favorite green feature at 2M?
My favorite green amenity at 2M is the electric car charging station.

What is your favorite 2M amenity?
One of my favorite amenities is the rooftop pool where residents can enjoy the most amazing and breathtaking views.

Describe your perfect day at 2M:
My perfect day at 2M starts with a cup of coffee from the Resident Café.  I would then take Emmy for a walk to our beautiful private dog park. Afterwards, I would invite my friends over to BBQ in our beautiful grilling area, but after having all that fun I would need a vigorous workout in our state-of-the-art gym. My day would conclude with watching a romantic comedy with my boyfriend in the Theatre Room.

Why would your pet love to live here?
My pet would love to live at 2M because he can have so much fun interacting with other dogs at the dog park.

Commit to be Fit in the New Year

Resolve to be a Better You

Commit to be Fit in the New Year

A new year is upon us, and the start of January will surely bring resolutions galore.  On January 2nd, the treadmills at your local gym are bound to be filled with runners looking to shed the cheesecake and eggnog of the past week.  Getting fit is a popular goal for the new year, but how can we stay motivated throughout the year ahead and beyond?  Furthermore, how do you begin?  To help jump start your healthier new life, we consulted with local personal trainer and fitness guru Errick McAdams.  Errick has been working in DC for the past four years, motivating and transforming clients with his supportive and upbeat attitude.  Lucky for us, he took the time to answer a few questions about kick-starting your wellness routine:

What is a great first step that we could start doing today?

The first step that anyone can take towards getting fit is to take a walk. Walking is great exercise and almost anyone can do it. Not hard enough? Put some hills in your route or use the incline on the treadmill. Another first step is: Drink more water. Actually, drink only water (black coffee and tea being the exceptions). Challenge yourself to drink only water for an entire month. You will feel awesome!

Why is hiring a personal trainer a good idea?

The biggest benefit to hiring a personal trainer is having someone to hold you accountable to the lifestyle you want.

What are your go-to apartment exercises when you are limited on space and equipment?

My favorite apartment exercises are jumping jacks, push ups, planks and burpees

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween from 2M!

Ah, Halloween…a celebration of Fall, sugary sweets and all things spooky; but where did it all start?  According to the History Channel, to origin of Halloween may date back as far as 2,000 years:

[box] Straddling the line between fall and winter, plenty and paucity, life and death, Halloween is a time of celebration and superstition. It is thought to have originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off roaming ghosts. In the eighth century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as a time to honor all saints and martyrs; the holiday, All Saints’ Day, incorporated some of the traditions of Samhain. The evening before was known as All Hallows’ Eve and later Halloween. Over time, Halloween evolved into a secular, community-based event characterized by child-friendly activities such as trick-or-treating. [/box]

Today, we approach Halloween with lighter spirits, but take our festive activities and costumes almost as seriously!  So this year when our Marketing Director Holli got her hands on these little guys, we knew we had to do something special with them.  With Halloween right around the corner and some thrilling news to announce, we created this video:

But we didn’t stop there!  We wanted the fun to continue, so we asked our friends, family and followers to record themselves doing their best Thriller moves.  Whoever provided the moves that thrilled us the most would be rewarded with a $100 gift card!  You can check out some of the scary good submissions here.

To keep the treats coming, we are also releasing a spooky sneak peek of our Skyline Cafe.  This fabulous common space is located adjacent to our rooftop pool and is an ideal alternative to entertaining in your luxury apartment.

We hope you enjoy our treats; have a safe and happy Halloween!
