3 Easy Spring-Cleaning Tips for your Apartment

January and February are a thing of the past, and March is officially on the calendar! Along with warmer weather and cherry blossom season, the time to begin your spring cleaning is here. For renters’ this is an exciting opportunity to get a fresh jump on sprucing up your apartment in the front end of the new year!

We know that cleaning and organizing your apartment sounds fantastic, but we also understand that it requires time and energy that a lot you reading this might not have an overabundance of in your everyday lives.

For this reason, we’ve decided to overview three time efficient cleaning tips to make getting your apartment clean super easy just in time for the spring season!

Tip #1: BREAK-DOWN “THE BIG 3” CLEANING TASKS

Cleaning your apartment can be broken down into what we call, “The Big 3” – The kitchen, the bathroom, and the bedroom. These are generally the areas of the apartment that are used the most and are going to take the longest to clean; this makes it super important that these areas are addressed first. Studies show that cleaning at least 1 of these three areas make the most visual difference in the cleanliness of your apartment.

Cleaning is already exhausting enough as it is, don’t make it any harder by tasking yourself with cleaning every closet, nook, and cranny inside of your apartment in a single day. If you’re short on time, break down the significant 3 areas of your apartment as you see fit, and tidy up accordingly.

Tip #2: CLEAR THE CLUTTER

A big factor in organizing your apartment home is knowing when to part ways with additional materials that create clutter; this means trashing the mountain of junk mail, old receipts, and even older grocery lists laying on all of your counter surfaces.

Doing this is a fast and effective way of cleaning your apartment when you’re in a time crunch. You will quickly find that having less clutter makes your apartment home feel more open and most importantly cleaner.

So, say goodbye to clutter, and hello to spring clean!

Tip #3: SMELLS GOOD, LOOKS GOOD.

The smell of your apartment home matters when it comes time to freshen up. We all know that it’s unsettling when your apartment is a disaster area, but it’s even worse when the smell of your apartment matches the look.

Instead of adding insult to injury, try adding in a scent like a candle, a scented plug-in, or an essential oil diffuser to your cleaning process when you’re short on time. In no way are we saying a clean smell makes up for a messy apartment, but the aroma of your place goes a long way when you don’t have hours to deep clean your apartment.

Cleaning will always be a process, but that doesn’t mean it has to be a difficult process.

Welcome to March, and happy spring cleaning!

Meet The 2M Team: Nick Beaver

Say hello to 2M leasing consultant Nick Beaver!  As part of the 2M team, we asked Nick to tell us a little about himself, how he ended up here and what he loves about NoMa and DC.

What was the path that led you here, either personally or professionally?
I have always been interested in urban-development and WC Smith is a leader for the DC area. With every new development WC Smith has built, they have also built entire communities along the way.

What made you want to come work with WC Smith?
WC Smith has been around for 46 years and they continue to expand. As I type this there are hundreds of apartment units being constructed/planned by WC Smith.

What do you like to do when you’re not working?
Explore DC and the surrounding area. You literally have everything you can want within a short drive: beach, mountains, other big cities, great shopping, etc…

Where do you see NoMa in 5 years?
NoMa is already growing rapidly, and in five years I imagine the neighborhood being even more dense and livable than it already is. There are plans for a movie theatre, more restaurants, nightlife options, and shops. I would love to see a Target nearby!

If you only had 1 day in DC, what are your top 3 musts?
I’ll be honest, it wouldn’t be the monuments or museums. Although DC is known world-wide for the Washington Monument, countless free museums, and other historic places, to me there is so much more to DC. I would stop at least one place (restaurant, bar, park, etc.) in a few of DC’s vibrant neighborhoods. Must visit neighborhoods are: DuPont/Logan Circles, U Street, H Street, Adams Morgan, Georgetown, Chinatown, and Eastern Market.

What do you think draws residents to 2M/NoMa now?
2M has more amenities than I’ve seen anywhere else, and there is no extra charge! NoMa is a growing area that has so much of what you could want including free neighborhood wifi, outdoor movies, access to public transit, and proximity to the H Street Corridor and other nightlife areas.

What is your favorite green feature at 2M?
The roof-top courtyard.

What is your favorite 2M amenity?
For sure the pool.

Describe your perfect day at 2M:
Heading up to the pool with some friends to enjoy a few drinks, get some sun, and cook out on the grills. Later in the afternoon I would hang out in the skyline lounge with some friends before going out to some nearby bars.

Why would your pet love to live here?
My dog (he’s a long-haired Chihuahua) would have so many friends.

If you could chose a floor to live on at 2M, what would it be?
Eleventh floor. I like to be high up, and I prefer odd numbers.

What is your favorite place to grab lunch in the neighborhood?
Shake Shack

3 words to describe 2M/NoMa:
Upscale, urban, and unique.

Meet The 2M Team: Paulito Maslog

Meet The 2M Team: Assistant Property Manager Paulito Maslog

Have you had a chance to get to know our Assistant Property Manager Paulito yet?  We asked him to share a little bit about himself, how he ended up at 2M and what he loves most about being here.

What made you want to come work for WC Smith/2M?
The opportunity for career growth and obtain valuable work experiences.

What do you like to do when you’re not working?
On my free time, I spend time with my family and especially my daughter. I also like to play tennis and watch Redskins football games.

Where do you see NoMa in 5 years?
A vibrant area. I wouldn’t be surprise if it becomes like another Chinatown or U street area. Looks like the city is definitely trying to promote the area.

If you only had 1 day in DC, what are your top 3 musts?
I would like to visit the White House and grab some seafood at Maine Avenue, SE.

If 2M were a song, what would it be?
Hustlin by Rick Ross

What do you think draws residents to 2M/NoMa now?
The amenities and the apartments.

What is your favorite green feature at 2M?
The electronic leases.

What is your favorite 2M amenity?
The Skyline Lounge.

Describe your perfect day at 2M.
When a prospect or resident expresses how they love the apartment and the building.

Why would your pet love to live here?
The dog park and how pet friendly we are with dogs.

If you could choose a floor to live on at 2M?
I would like to live on the 12th floor.

What is your favorite place to grab lunch in the neighborhood?
From the variety of food trucks in the neighborhood.

2M Resident Profile: Chelsea Floyd

2M Apartments Resident Profile | Howard University Student Chelsea Floyd

As we approach the anniversary of our first move-ins, we’re taking some time to appreciate the community our amazing residents have begun to create.  You, our residents, are the ones who truly make our community a home.  In honor of that, we’re turning the spotlight on some of our own to hear all about how they live their #2MLife.  This week, we’re catching up with Chelsea Floyd.  Chelsea is a student at Howard University working towards a major in Broadcast News and a minor in Psychology.  She moved to DC from the west coast and has fallen in love with 2M and the NoMa area ever since.

What were your first thoughts of 2M?
I can remember the first time I visited 2M and toured my soon to be apartment. As soon as I walked in I told myself “Now this is where I am supposed to be!” I immediately fell in love with the lobby décor, amenities and floor plan of my future apartment.

What attracted you to NoMa?
NoMa is an evolving area. I lived in Northwest DC prior to moving to 2M this year. During that time I noticed the drastic developments. The NoMa area made me feel right at home! Modern and conveniently located near the Metro and grocery store.

What does living the 2M Life mean for you?
Living the 2M Life to me means truly being comfortable at home. Whether it’s me being in my apartment relaxing and playing music, studying downstairs in the computer lab or chatting it up with other residents around the pool. 2M is where I am proud to call home.

In your apartment what do you love the most?
The view! The window in my living room is easily my staple piece. Every visitor I’ve had has been blown away by the incredible view!

What is your favorite 2M amenity?
The gym. The equipment is new and always kept nice and clean. Not to mention it’s conveniently located right in the apartment. So there’s no need to commute!

Describe your perfect day exploring DC:
My perfect day exploring DC would be taking a jog to visit the White House. Then going shopping in Georgetown and ending the night with a candle lit dinner on one of the cruise ships near the Harbor!

Describe your perfect day at 2M:
Grabbing a cup of hot chocolate from the lobby and heading up to the penthouse or to the screening room for a picture perfect movie night!

What do you think draws residents to 2M/NoMa now?
The feeling of getting the absolute best quality for your buck!

3 words to describe 2M?
Modern. Stylish. Welcoming.

Resident FAQs

Hey 2M residents!  We’ve had a few repeat questions lately and want to make sure all residents clearly understand some of the policies in place in our community and the purpose behind them.  If you have additional questions please let us know!

Why are the stairwells locked?

Just as the elevators only go to the floors that you live on, the stairwells operate in the same manner.  By limiting access to the stairs, we encourage residents and visitors to use the elevators; this limits unwanted traffic on the resident floors. Also, this will give you an opportunity to meet some of your fellow residents at the elevator lobbies (yay new friends!). Not to worry though – in the event of an emergency, doors to the stairway will unlock to provide an exit.

Why does 2M send rent reminder emails?

We know you are busy, and we know you don’t want to be charged a late fee.  We also know that many of you share expenses with roommates.  The email is sent as a friendly reminder to make sure rent is paid before late fees begin.  This is a universal email that is sent to all accurate email addresses in our system; if we remove it, no one will  be able to receive the reminder.

What is the guest and delivery policy?

The concierge team has been instructed to contact all residents before allowing guests or deliveries up to the apartment. If the resident does not answer the call from the front desk and verify that the guest is authorized we will not let that individual into the building.  This is intended to keep unwanted visitors from coming into the building (*cough* ex-boyfriends *cough*).

Why do all packages need to be logged in?

We track package delivery for several reasons.  First, we want to keep a record of what is received and what is picked up.  This is for your benefit and ours in the event there is a dispute with the shipper.  By tracking them, we also have the opportunity to notify our residents that they have received a package.  As long as you’ve provided us with an accurate email address, you will receive an email notification when your package arrives.  This saves time for you by not having to call the office or front desk to see if your package has been delivered.
