At 2M Street, we pride ourselves on being a pet-friendly apartment community. We adore all of our four-legged friends and welcome them as equally important residents of our building. As the Pet Ambassador for 2M Street, Emmy gets to greet new residents and monitor pet-friendly amenities and events to ensure they are the best they can possibly be. Although 2M Street is Emmy’s top priority, she recently took a field trip to visit our friends at The Shawmut, a pet-friendly apartment community in Northwest Washington, DC. Here is what Emmy has to say about life at The Shawmut.
Emmy Visits the Shawmut
Hello, everyone! The other day, I took a trip to visit my friends in at The Shawmut in Northwest DC, a great pet-friendly apartment building in the heart of Adams Morgan. Not only are cats and dogs welcome at The Shawmut, there are also no pet fees, no pet deposits, and no pet rent! Living in a pet-friendly building means lots of opportunities for play dates and making new friends, and I’ve discovered that the fun continues when you get out and explore the neighborhood, too!
This beautiful building is situated directly across the street from Kalorama Park, a great place for you and your pet to get some exercise or soak up the sun. The 3-acre park is home to a community garden, an indoor recreation center, a playground and open space for playing and relaxing.
If you take a walk down the street, you’ll find the Walter C. Pierce Community Park. In addition to a multi-purpose playing field, basketball court, community garden, children’s play area, chess tables and a picnic area, there is also a special space for dogs. The fenced-in portion of the park was among the first spaces in DC where dogs could roam free and interact with each other! The space is almost always busy, which means you’ll likely see old friends and meet some new ones when you visit.
I don’t know about you but after spending some time at the park, my humans and I are always ready for a snack. Residents of The Shawmut are lucky to have great restaurants just down the street in Adams Morgan, and some even have dog-friendly outdoor seating! As the weather warms up, there are a few places you and your pooch can enjoy together:
Grab some falafel and french fries, then grab a seat on the patio out front of this great lunch spot. This is a neighborhood favorite for vegetarians, but makes a satisfying meal for anyone (and don’t fret if a fry or two goes missing…).
A favorite late-night eatery, The Diner is a 24-hour restaurant you’d be wise to experience. Whether your cravings strike at 2 am or 2 pm, you can order breakfast here any time of day or night. The menu offers indulgent snacks, comfort foods, and one of the best breakfast menus around. End your meal with a homemade hand-dipped milkshake or kick-start Sunday Funday with a spiked “adult” milkshake. In the warmer months, dine alfresco and enjoy some great people watching with your furry friends.
This lively cafe serves up yummy Latin-American cuisine in the heart of 18th Street. An enclosed patio out front allows you to enjoy people watching while keeping your dog by your side.
When you find yourself ready for a change of scenery, Dupont Circle is another great neighborhood that’s just a short walk down the hill from The Shawmut. You can picnic in the circle itself, do some window shopping or check out one of the many restaurants surrounding the circle.
I had a great time visiting my friends at The Shawmut and exploring Adams Morgan and Dupont Circle. If you would like to learn more about this pet-friendly apartment building and availability, check out their webpage.
The leasing office will soon be open, and we are proud to say that 2M is staffed with some of the friendliest, most helpful people in all of DC! The 2M Street team has been hard at work creating a community, but we asked them to take a few moments to introduce themselves and to give an insider perspective on what life at 2M will be like. Without further ado, we proudly introduce…

What made you want to come work at 2M?
I always wanted to work for a company with a great reputation; this is why I chose WC Smith. I am very excited to work in one of the most beautiful buildings in NoMa with a close knit team and the cutest puppy social media has ever seen.
What do you like to do when you’re not working?
When I am not working I still like to stay busy and entertained. I enjoy attending concerts, festivals, new restaurants and of course shopping. I also love outdoor activities.
Where do you see NoMa in 5 years?
NoMa is an emerging neighborhood with a bright future. It is currently in the process of developing into one of DC’s most vibrant neighborhoods with great infrastructure, restaurants and shops.
If you only had 1 day in DC, what would be your top 3 musts?
1. Get a pedicab and see the sites of DC
2. Go to as many museums as I can, because Washington, DC is the only city where you can visit the majority of the (Smithsonian) museums for FREE
3. I would definitely see the White House and take tons of pictures
What is your favorite green feature at 2M?
My favorite green amenity at 2M is the electric car charging station.
What is your favorite 2M amenity?
One of my favorite amenities is the rooftop pool where residents can enjoy the most amazing and breathtaking views.
Describe your perfect day at 2M:
My perfect day at 2M starts with a cup of coffee from the Resident Café. I would then take Emmy for a walk to our beautiful private dog park. Afterwards, I would invite my friends over to BBQ in our beautiful grilling area, but after having all that fun I would need a vigorous workout in our state-of-the-art gym. My day would conclude with watching a romantic comedy with my boyfriend in the Theatre Room.
Why would your pet love to live here?
My pet would love to live at 2M because he can have so much fun interacting with other dogs at the dog park.
