Today we recognize Juneteenth. Our Nation’s second Independence Day, that celebrates the abolition of slavery. As we take a step back and think about the monumental impact this day in 1865 had on people of color, we must also look at Juneteenth today as yet another opportunity to reflect on our place in present history. To ensure that we continue to do our parts to ultimately eliminate the systemic racism and the social injustice that still exists for Black people currently.
Let us all remember Juneteenth as a massive milestone in history, but more importantly, as a reminder of the conversations that still need to happen and actions to take to achieve the goal of equality.
While there is a multitude of ways, you can be an ally for #BlackLivesMatter causes, one constant that serves as a positive impact is consumer support. So in observation of the Juneteenth Holiday, we encourage our residents to support a local Black-owned business today by becoming a customer.
Living in the NoMa neighborhood puts you within walking distance of some popular black-owned establishment staples in the District!

Valentine’s Date Ideas In NoMa
To kick off your Valentine’s celebration, we recommend starting the night off with happy hour on the heated pavilion at Wundergarten, NoMa’s very own beer garden. Choose from a variety of beers, ciders and wines while you enjoy a little friendly competition over a game of corn hole, or just sit back and enjoy the magic of the twinkling lights for a little while. Show up between 4 pm and 7 pm to catch the happy hour deals.
Once you’ve had your fill at the beer garden, mosey on over to Union Market. Here you’ll be able to enjoy the Chocotenango specialty chocolate pop-up (open until 8pm) and/or the “We Heart Cheese: Chocolate, Cheese & Baller Bubbly” tasting class (must book your tickets in advance), because the only thing more romantic that chocolate and champagne is adding cheese into the mix!
Before you leave the Union Market area, don’t forget to check out one of DC’s most instagrammable spots, the hearts mural created by LA-based graffiti artist Mr. Brainwash. We can’t think of a better spot for a Valentine’s Day selfie (ussie?), can you?
To cap off a lovely evening, stroll back home to 2M, then make a quick trip up to the rooftop to say goodnight to this beautiful city of ours. It may be a little chilly, but who doesn’t love an excuse to snuggle up?
As we approach the anniversary of our first move-ins, we’re taking some time to appreciate the community our amazing residents have begun to create. You, our residents, are the ones who truly make our community a home. In honor of that, we’re turning the spotlight on some of our own to hear all about how they live their #2MLife. This week, we’re catching up with Chelsea Floyd. Chelsea is a student at Howard University working towards a major in Broadcast News and a minor in Psychology. She moved to DC from the west coast and has fallen in love with 2M and the NoMa area ever since.
What were your first thoughts of 2M?
I can remember the first time I visited 2M and toured my soon to be apartment. As soon as I walked in I told myself “Now this is where I am supposed to be!” I immediately fell in love with the lobby décor, amenities and floor plan of my future apartment.
What attracted you to NoMa?
NoMa is an evolving area. I lived in Northwest DC prior to moving to 2M this year. During that time I noticed the drastic developments. The NoMa area made me feel right at home! Modern and conveniently located near the Metro and grocery store.
What does living the 2M Life mean for you?
Living the 2M Life to me means truly being comfortable at home. Whether it’s me being in my apartment relaxing and playing music, studying downstairs in the computer lab or chatting it up with other residents around the pool. 2M is where I am proud to call home.
In your apartment what do you love the most?
The view! The window in my living room is easily my staple piece. Every visitor I’ve had has been blown away by the incredible view!
What is your favorite 2M amenity?
The gym. The equipment is new and always kept nice and clean. Not to mention it’s conveniently located right in the apartment. So there’s no need to commute!
Describe your perfect day exploring DC:
My perfect day exploring DC would be taking a jog to visit the White House. Then going shopping in Georgetown and ending the night with a candle lit dinner on one of the cruise ships near the Harbor!
Describe your perfect day at 2M:
Grabbing a cup of hot chocolate from the lobby and heading up to the penthouse or to the screening room for a picture perfect movie night!
What do you think draws residents to 2M/NoMa now?
The feeling of getting the absolute best quality for your buck!
3 words to describe 2M?
Modern. Stylish. Welcoming.
Meet Doug Crawford, 2M Building Manager
Tell us a little about how you ended up at 2M:
I worked for a large National Real Estate Investment Trust for the last 8 years and I felt it was time to make a change to a company that had a strong footprint and roots here in the DC area. WC Smith was the perfect choice. 2M is a fantastic opportunity to be a part of the revitalization of a beautiful and vibrant area incorporating different sectors of the community to enhance the project.
Where can we find you when you’re off-duty?
I am a rabid and fanatical LSU Tiger fan. Whether its baseball, football or basketball I will be watching and cheering on my team.
Where do you see NoMa in 5 years?
NoMa is really transforming into a beautiful and interesting area where I think you will see a large presence of arts and interesting entrepreneurial projects that will make it unique area in the DMV.
If you only had one day in DC, what would be your top-3 must-do items?
1) Arlington Cemetery and the changing of the guard
2) A show at the Kennedy Center
3) A Night tour of the National Mall.
What do you think draws residents to 2M/NoMa now?
2M is a building that was developed with all the latest amenities but it was also designed to enhance the community. 2M has been extremely sensitive to ensuring that we incorporate the history of NOMA and that we reach out to the community to keep them in the loop as an important and integral part of the development.
Why would your pet love to live here?
My pet would love to live at 2M because he/she is going to have an abudance of buddies to play with including our building dog, Emmy, who is always available for play dates.
Describe your perfect day at 2M
My perfect day would start out with an early morning run on the treadmills in our beautiful gym followed by a work out. Once that is complete I would head back upstairs to cook some steak and eggs in my spacious gourment kitchen. I then head down to the common area room to do a little light reading and then its onto the pool for some afternoon sun tanning. In the evening I crack open a beer on the roof top and have my friends over for a cookout.
