This week, we are putting the spotlight on the Farragut North Metro station, which serves Downtown DC.  Downtown is not only a hub for business, but home to many museums, theatres and public parks.  A few favorites are the National Portrait Gallery, Newseum, the International Spy Museum, Ford’s Theatre, National, and the Shakespeare Theatre.  Gallery Place is a vibrant section filled with upscale shops, restaurants and bars, and the observation deck in the tower of the Old Post Office Pavilion has some of the best 360° views in the city (and it’s free!).  When you’re ready to refuel, check out one of our favorite Farragut North Restaurants on the Red Line.

This week, we are featuring the hip, bustling neighborhood of Dupont Circle.  This Northwest DC community is known for the concentration of restaurants, shopping and night life options that surround a picturesque traffic circle.  In warmer seasons, locals flock to the circle for weekly farmer’s markets, and many restaurants in the area take advantage of the fresh produce they find there.  Here are a few of our favorites:

Dupont Circle Restaurants on the Red Line

Cafe DupontThis restaurant, located within The Dupont Circle Hotel, transforms local farmer’s market finds into sophisticated French-influenced dishes.   According to their website:

[box] “The modern French Brasserie menu concept offers an approachable menu featuring classic French dishes such as beef bourguignon, mussels with a selection of broths, and charcuterie and cheese options. Steak Frites, a brasserie favorite, is a menu highlight which allows guests to select their preferred cut of steak from all natural beef filet, sirloin, hanger or skirt, as well as their choice of sauce from béarnaise, green peppercorn, mushroom, red wine, or herb butter. Café Dupont also features daily specials such as quiche lorraine, coq au vin and bouillabaisse.”[/box]

Cafe Dupont is a great breakfast option as well, offering both sweet and savory options, as well as traditional french offerings such as croque madame, croque monsieur and eggs benedict.  Sit near the large windows or dine al fresco for great people watching.

Circa at Dupont: This Circa Cafe boasts a fantastic, central location which is easy to get to and puts you right in the heart of the Dupont Circle.  In addition to solid brunch, lunch and dinner offerings, Circa hosts a great happy hour Monday through Thursday.  For a deal that can’t be beat, make Monday date night and enjoy half off any bottle of wine under $100.

Kramerbooks & AfterwordsThis combination independent book store/cafe is an unique and unexpected treat in the heart of Dupont Circle.  Browse the selection of best sellers, then mosey on into what is much more than a typical cafe, boasting seasonal offerings such as lamb pot pie and pumpkin ravioli.  Keep your eyes open for quirky touches like the peep-sized replica, Kramerpeeps & Afterpeeps.
