Things to do in DC in November

The months of September and November are a fantastic time of year to visit the Nation’s Capital.  The sweltering Summer heat has passed, the crowds on the National Mall have thinned and the changing leaves put on quite a show.  Whether you are a visitor or a resident, there are plenty of things to do in DC in November.  Here are a few of our favorite late-Autumn activities.

National Gallery of Art: Sculpture Garden Skating Rink

Open Mid-November through Mid-March (weather permitting), this park center transforms into a skating rink each Winter.  Skaters will enjoy music from a state-of-the-art sound system, surrounded by magnificent sculptures scattered throughout the gardens.

Semi-Annual 1K Wine and Beer Walk

Saturday November 16 1:00pm-7:00pm

You’ll have to venture across the Potomac to Arlington for this quirky event, but it will be well worth the extra 5 minutes.  The website sums it up best:

[box] “Calling racers and couch potatoes alike! The semi-annual 1K Wine & Beer Walk is around the corner so you better start training! Pass the start line and sip your way along the race course, stopping at “Wine” and “Beer” hydration stations along the course. Sample 22 wines or 22 beers we’ll be pouring for your racing pleasure, and end at a giant dance party! New this year: due to popular requests, we are combining the 1K Wine and Beer Walk together so folks can attend in groups and choose either wine or beer tasting option. Join us for DC and Northern VA’s most unusual wine and beer indoor wine and beer tasting/sporting event/dance party!”[/box]
